AFE 50-70057D Pro Dry S Momentum HD Intake System will breathe new life into your 1994-1997 Ford 7.3L Powerstroke. This intake system features a computer-designed one-piece enclosed airbox that is manufactured using heat-soak resistant cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) and comes with AFE's patented filter-to-housing interface that decreases the number of pieces needed for installation. The clear sight window in the airbox allows you to examine the filter without opening the airbox. The OE air inlet scoop joins to the AFE housing with no additional fasteners needed and includes an optional auxiliary air inlet for even greater airflow. The auxiliary opening includes a plug should you not use it.The AFE 50-70057D Pro Dry S Momentum HD Intake System delivers the best filter-to-housing ratio that allows for the largest filter in the airbox. The 9" tall Pro 10R dry air filter has a 6-1/2" x 4-3/4" oval flange and delivers 360-degrees of radial filtration surface. The inverted top gives you more surface area filtration that allows greater gaps in service frequency, and the reinforced metal gives this filter maximum strength to stop the filter from crumpling in. With three oil-free layers of synthetic media for the best combination of efficiency and dust holding capacity, this dry filter is also cleanable and reusable. This intake includes stainless-steel T-bolt clamps, high-quality silicone couplers and all the necessary hardware for installation.
aFe Momentum HD Cold Air Intake System Features:
When you think about cold air intakes, there are two main components to consider. First is air filtration. When comparing oiled filters to dry filters the oiled will always filter out more particulate than the dry filter will. The added oil allows the cotton fibers in the filter element to trap more particulate matter as the air passes through it. The downfall is that in dusty environments the oil filters tend to get dirty quicker than the dry filter will.
The second component to consider on a cold air intake is performance, or how much air flow it allows. From the tests that we have seen, there is no difference in air flow between an oiled filter or a dry filter, if they are both clean. However, as we stated before the oiled filter will catch more particulate and become dirty quicker than the dry filter will. As a filter becomes dirtier, its performance decreases due to excess particulate matter restricting the air flow. Therefore, a dry filter will provide more performance over a longer period of time than an oiled filter will.
For daily driven trucks we recommend oiled filters, unless the truck is driven in an extremely dusty environment. We feel that the extra filtration power added by the oil is worth sacrificing the 1 or 2 extra horsepower you might get from using a dry filter.
