Such is the case for the first-generation S&S 14mm CP3 pump, which is highly modified for high RPM efficiency, yet requires precise calibration. The high RPM efficiency does not benefit the vast majority of diesel engines, and ECU calibration can be challenging for all, save a few.

High-pressure common rail injections pumps are an integral part of a high performance fuel system and are crucial to the performance of a diesel fuel injector.
