Many stock replacement parts such as turbos, injectors, injection pumps, and high pressure oil pumps have a core charge that is associated with the new replacement part. You must return the old part to receive a refund on the core charge.

In some cases, the core is not reusable, such as in the event of a cracked case, at which point the core deposit would not be credited as the core component is not reusable.
Cores that have been disassembled and/or have missing and/or damaged major components will not receive full core credit.
Returned cores must be on a "like-for-like" basis, meaning that the returned core has the exact same fitment as the remanufactured component that was purchased. If the core is not "like-for-like," your core may not be eligible for return/credit.
You are responsible for core return shipping cost.

If you plan on returning your core you have two options.

Thoroughbred Diesel offers defer the upfront core charge when purchasing via credit card payment.

OPTION 1: You can accept the core charge, which means you will be charged for the part AND the core at time of purchase. You still have the option to send it back, and if you do, the core will be refunded back on the card used, presuming the core meets core criteria and the core is returned within 30 days from the time your order is received. If you return your core after 30 days you may refer to the Core Charge Timeline below as to how you will be refunded.

Core Charge Timeline

If the core is returned after 30 days, 90% of the core will be refunded.
If the core is returned after 60 days, 70% of the core will be refunded.
If the core is returned after 90 days, 50% of the core will be refunded.
After 6 months cores will be accepted at Thoroughbred’s discretion.

OPTION 2: You can defer the core charge. If you defer, you will not be charged for the core at the time of purchase. You will have 21 days from the time your order is received to send the core back. If the core is not received within the 21 days, your credit card will be charged for the core amount on your order. If you return your core after 21 days, you may refer to the Core Charge Timeline below as to how you will be refunded. When Core deferral (Pay Core Charge Later) is limited to payment by credit card only. ***When using PayPal or Affirm as your method of payment “Core Deferral (Pay Core Charge Later)” is not available. The core must be paid at time of purchase. ***

Core Return Procedure

Please keep all original packaging of your new item to be used for the core return.
Drain all fluids: oil, fuel, etc. out of the core before it is returned.
Place any plastic plugs or caps received on the new item back onto the core.
To insure UPS, Fed Ex, or USPS will not reject the package due to fuel or oil leakage, please wrap the core in a plastic garbage bag.
Place core inside the box.
If core return paperwork was inside the box, please complete the form and send back with the core.

This SunCoast Category 5 48RE Transmission includes everything necessary to rebuild your 48RE transmission. This high-performance transmission is for customers seeking improvement over the stock unit along with improvements to the band, band actuation, servos, accumulator piston, torque converter, forward drum, larger 27-spline input shaft, larger 29-spline output shaft, billet intermediate shaft, 27-spline stator support and billet direct drum.

The addition of the billet intermediate servo, billet band anchor and billet band strut allow us to address the common know shortcomings of this 48RE transmission. This transmission also comes with a new billet blueprinted 4.4 band lever. The new thrust washer kit also contains selective for setting endplay.

The 27-spline, triple-disc billet torque converter included with this transmission comes standard with a 2,000 stall speed (Part #: 2761848-3D), with other stall speeds available, depending on your needs. The torque converter is lined with carbon graphite clutch material and equipped with a precision CNC machined forged billet apply piston to ensure no deflection occurs. This is an upgrade from the 23-spline, triple-disc billet converter that comes in the #SC-48RECAT4-4WD.

This transmission also includes our much larger, one-piece, billet 27-spline input shaft. This shaft is made from 300 maraging steel and is then heat treated and stress relieved to handle the additional demands of higher torque and stress loads. This shaft is precision ground to exact tolerances. We're also including our exclusive 27-spline stator support with this transmission to accommodate the larger input shaft.

This Category 5 48RE Transmission also includes a band upgrade. While some of our other transmissions include a Raybestos Pro Series carbon fiber flex band, in this transmission we use our billet rigid band. This band is CNC machined from billet steel and then lined with carbon graphite lining to ensure unmatched performance by any other manufacturer.

In our full competition builds, safety is always at the forefront. One of the biggest upgrades to this transmission is the addition of our Ultimate Weapon Billet Direct Drum. This billet direct drum is made from 4140 billet steel; this is to ensure the utmost safety when you consider the direct drum is traveling 2.2 times the speed of the engine. As you can imagine, when things let go at that speed, the results are catastrophic, and we've all heard the stories of severed limbs with transmission failures. This drum also maintains conformity at higher RPMs, reducing deflection when the band is applied. This combination has proven to dramatically reduce shift times. In addition to the safety features, this drum has an extended snap ring groove to allow the inclusion of more clutches. This is matched perfectly with the extended height of our 27 spline input shaft and hub, also included in this transmission.

Our Category 5 SunCoast 48RE Transmission also includes upgrades to the flexplate. The factory 48RE flexplate is replaced with our SunCoast billet 48RE one piece unit. This new 48RE flexplate exceeds 29.3 SFI certification. This new billet one piece design is CNC machined from a single forging, and specific reliefs are machined out between the converter mounting area and the crank flange to enable minimal designed torsional flex.

We also include the addition of new apply pistons for both forward and direct. SunCoast Category 5 48RE Transmissions replace the factory cast pistons with new billet apply pistons. The direct piston is also included with new custom calibrated springs. The forward piston is also replaced with a new billet piece. These two improvements allow higher clamping forces without any deflection occurring. Giving a much more direct shift feel and eliminating potential cross leaks within the drum.

Another piece included in this transmission is our full billet rear clutch retaining hub, made from 4140 heat-treated, stress-relieved billet steel versus the OE cast piece. The factory cast retainer is known to fail in high torsional fatigue situations such as higher line pressure, commercial use and heavy duty towing and hauling. This new billet piece is the correction you've been looking for.

We also replace the factory intermediate shaft with a billet one. Designed for high torque & heavy towing applications, the shaft is precision machined and ground from 300 Maraging steel (VASCOMAX) and heat treated for superior surface toughness and durability. It is made for high torque engines and is an ideal replacement part to satisfy the demands for extreme off-road service and high performance applications. The intermediate shaft is spline-machined with large blended radius to reduce common fractures associated with the OEM design.

Lastly, we include a billet output shaft. Designed for higher horsepower/torque engines, this performance product has been tested in excess of 1,400 ft/lbs of torque. Shaft is machined from 300M material then Heat Treated for torsional strength and precision ground on all critical diameters.
