Product Details

Product Name: S&B Cold Air Intake - 2020-2024 Nissan Frontier 3.8L w/Dry Extendable Filter
Manufacturer: S&B
Manufacturer Part #: 75-5188D
Thoroughbred Diesel Part #: SAB75-5188D
Fitment Notes: 2020-2024 Nissan Frontier 3.8L w/Dry Extendable Filter

MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE.

Our cold air intake for the Frontier 3.8L was engineered to minimize air restriction and flow 47.46% better than stock. This kit comes with an additional front scoop, a massive side inlet, and an intake tube that connects all the way to the throttle body.

NEW AIR INLETS.

Through a combination of significantly enlarging the side inlet and incorporating a completely new front scoop, we have achieved a remarkable 47.46% improvement in intake airflow compared to the stock configuration.

HUGE TUBE AND AIR FILTER.

The inlet at the filter leads to unrestricted airflow all the way to the throttle body through our high-flow intake tube.

SNAP IN LID DESIGN.

Our new snap-In lid design requires no screws to secure it to the box. This makes installation and inspection quick and easy. Our silicone edge trim provides a protective seal against unwanted, power-robbing engine heat and debris.

WORKS W/ AUTO START/STOP TRUCKS.

S&B moved the auto start/stop fuse box from the side of the box to the included front bracket, so we can fit a massive side inlet.

THE BEST ON THE MARKET

The S&B intake flows 9.4% better than Z1 Offroad, is 99.11% efficient and held 324.7 grams of dust

The Z1 Offroad intake was 93.44% efficient and held only 32.2 grams of dust.

You can see the filter size difference, additional air inlet S&B offers and overall airbox size comparison. S&B has been making filters for 50 years and it shows that Z1 did not do research or testing on their filter media.

S&B Cold Air Intake Features:

  • Maximum Airflow: Designed with a front scoop and enlarged side inlet, offering 47.46% more airflow than the stock intake.
  • High-Performance Tube and Filter: The oversized intake tube provides unrestricted airflow directly to the throttle body, promoting optimal engine performance.
  • Efficient Snap-In Lid: Quick and easy installation with a snap-in lid that doesn’t require screws, making filter checks and maintenance convenient. The silicone edge trim ensures a tight seal, keeping engine heat and debris out.
  • Auto Start/Stop Compatibility: Features a relocated auto start/stop fuse box on an included front bracket, allowing room for the larger side inlet.
  • Superior Efficiency: Outperforms the Z1 Offroad intake, achieving 99.11% efficiency and holding 324.7 grams of dust, compared to Z1’s 93.44% efficiency and 32.2 grams dust capacity.

Reviews

  • Are S&B Intake Kits Easy To Install?

    Eric Schumann | 5/16/2019

The installation process for an S&B Intake Kit is extremely straight forward and can usually be completed in less than 30 minutes using only standard tools.

  • Will An S&B Intake Kit Or Filter Void My Warranty?

    Eric Schumann | 5/16/2019

Installing an S&B Intake Kit or Filter will not void your vehicle's warranty as long as you follow the proper procedures found in the Vehicle, your Warranty is Safe. It is illegal for a dealership to void your warranty based solely on the fact that you have installed an aftermarket product. Your rights are protected by the Consumer Product Warranties Law, often referred to as the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

  • Will An S&B Filter Or Intake Kit Improve My Fuel Economy?

    Eric Schumann | 5/16/2019

The simple answer is yes. By lowering the restriction level versus stock, the S&B Intake allows the engine to work more efficiently which will improve fuel economy. According to the Department of Energy, a dirty air filter will have an adverse affect on fuel economy. Fueleconomy.gov states that replacing a clogged air filter can improve your car's gas mileage by as much as 10 percent. (http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/maintain.shtml) The reason a clean filter improves fuel economy is because it is less restrictive than a dirty filter, so the engine works less to consume the air it needs. This S&B Intake Kit is substantially less restrictive than the OE induction system with a clean filter installed thus allowing the engine to breathe even easier which results in better fuel economy. S&B does not make a specific claim with regards to fuel economy because there are too many factors that can affect your miles per gallon.

  • How Often Should I Service (Clean) My Filter?

    Eric Schumann | 5/16/2019

The cleaning interval will depend on your driving conditions. We recommend that you inspect your filter every oil change or 6,000 miles. If debris has built up on your filter equal to the height of the wire mesh, your filter should be cleaned and oiled. Servicing your filter more frequently will result in better performance. At a minimum, the air filter should be properly serviced using a Precision Cleaning & Oiling Kit every 12,000 miles.

  • Will The Oil On The Filter Damage My Vehicle's Mass Air Sensor?

    Eric Schumann | 5/16/2019

No! In fact, many OE paper filters contain oil in order to improve the efficiency of the filter. S&B uses robotics to precisely apply the correct amount of oil at the factory and provides consumers with the Precision Cleaning & Oiling Kit to properly service the filter in the field. Oil could potentially damage the mass air sensor only if it is over-applied.

  • Do I Want An Oiled Or Dry Cold Air Intake System?

    Eric Schumann | 5/16/2019

When you think about cold air intakes, there are two main components to consider. First is air filtration. When comparing oiled filters to dry filters the oiled will always filter out more particulate than the dry filter will. The added oil allows the cotton fibers in the filter element to trap more particulate matter as the air passes through it. The downfall is that in dusty environments the oil filters tend to get dirty quicker than the dry filter will.

The second component to consider on a cold air intake is performance, or how much air flow it allows. From the tests that we have seen, there is no difference in air flow between an oiled filter or a dry filter, if they are both clean. However, as we stated before the oiled filter will catch more particulate and become dirty quicker than the dry filter will. As a filter becomes dirtier, its performance decreases due to excess particulate matter restricting the air flow. Therefore, a dry filter will provide more performance over a longer period of time than an oiled filter will.

For daily driven trucks we recommend oiled filters, unless the truck is driven in an extremely dusty environment. We feel that the extra filtration power added by the oil is worth sacrificing the 1 or 2 extra horsepower you might get from using a dry filter.
